And then there was the dessert tray. They didn’t want to see it. They’d moan and shield their eyes. Oh, they’d take just peek. They didn’t want anything but that shouldn’t stop their husbands from getting something – not that one! And, looking at me now, an extra fork.
Our dessert special was called Mousse in a Box. It was white chocolate mousse in a Belgian chocolate box topped with whipped crème and raspberries. Most people tried to get a little of each ingredient in every bite, but others ate all the mousse, the whipped crème and raspberries first and then, when it was completely empty, they ate the chocolate box itself. Some destructive types smashed the whole dessert down first and ate it like that. I always wished I had time to do a full psychological profile of people based on their approach to the Mousse in a Box.
